Research
HealthQuest is currently engaged in a number of important research projects related to the development of integrative medicine. These projects are closely related to current HealthQuest clinical practice and to emergent trends and innovations in health-care.
Major projects:
- The Alpha Axis
This project is aimed at the development of a systematic way of appraising patients who present with ostensible mental illness symptomatology but who might be best served by a broadening of the base of clinical inquiry to include psychospiritual [transpersonal] information so as to pre-empt hasty diagnosis in terms of DSM criteria. The outcome aimed for here is a handbook which complements DSM IV but is also a stand-alone statement concerning psychospiritual approaches to mental health.
- Mind Technologies
HealthQuest is developing a set of integrated tools which are aimed at assisting clinicians in enhancing their range of effectiveness in dealing with medical and psychological problems. These are mind-state-specific tools which include the use of meditation techniques adapted to clinical use for treating depression, anxiety and stress; Psychobiogenesis [PBG] methods which draw on a range of research concerned with the use of the mind to control and change physical states; and Temporal Code [TC] programs which are concerned with assisting patients to make sense out of illness and disability and to discover and utilise personal healing resources. These include life transition tools, personal narratives, and healing imagery and symbols.
Integrative Medicine
HealthQuest services are subject to ongoing research and development with respect to creating an efficient integrative medicine facility which is responsive to changes in health-care policy, professional developments, research findings in medicine, and population needs and demands. Aims include refining the integrative medicine clinical service and being able to provide a consulting service to those clinics and professionals who wish to set up and integrative medicine services.
